College of Business Administration Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a quality education to a diverse community of learners through continuous improvement and dedication to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as intellectual contributions and service.

In support of this mission, the College:

  1. Provides nationally accredited Business Administration (AACSB) and Computer Science (CSAC/CSAB) programs which are strongly student oriented.

  2. Provides undergraduate business administration and computer science degree programs that are excellent in quality, contemporary in design, and relevant to dynamic business practices.

  3. Provides quality graduate programs that serve the changing needs of businesses and the community.

  4. Provides effective teaching that promotes lifelong learning and career development.

  5. Provides an environment that promotes faculty/student communication.

  6. Fosters an understanding and appreciation of cultural similarities and differences

  7. Conducts and disseminates scholarship in business and computer science.

  8. Serves the community and businesses through programs and partnerships that enhance the intellectual and economic quality of the region.

In addition, the College of Business Administration courses focus on developing the following competencies for the BSBA and MBA degrees:

A. COMMUNICATION

  1. Effectively communicate orally and in writing

  2. Organize information, draw and support conclusions

  3. Access and communicate information using modern technologies

B. TEAMWORK/DIVERSITY

  1. Understand group dynamics and become a contributing team member

  2. Understand and appreciate the impact of demographic and cultural diversity within the workforce

  3. Understand how the concepts and theories of leadership are incorporated into business practice

  4. Understand conflict management and negotiations

C. ADAPTABILITY

  1. Understand business from a global perspective

  2. Understand the changing political, legal, social, regulatory, technological, demographic and physical environments

  3. Appreciate the necessity for life long learning

  4. Respond to changing markets and needs of stakeholders

  5. Understand how the concepts and theories of quality and continuous improvement are incorporated into business practice

D. PROBLEM SOLVING

  1. Recognize problems and opportunities

  2. Analyze data and possess proficiency in the application of quantitative techniques of business

  3. Integrate functional areas of business when analyzing problems

  4. Develop strategies and implement a plan to accomplish goals

E. ACCOUNTABILITY AND ETHICS

  1. Appreciate how social responsibility and ethical values influence organizational behavior and individual actions

  2. Master individual skills and develop expertise in an area related to career choice

The College of Business Administration courses focus on developing the following competencies for the BSCS degree:

A. TECHNICAL

  1. Acquire proficiency in at least one high-level programming language

  2. Acquire knowledge of the scientific method through a study of physics (with appropriate laboratory experience) and other science courses

  3. Acquire competence in elementary mathematical analysis

  4. Acquire competence in software design and basic software engineering skills

  5. Acquire judgment in the choice of appropriate data and file structures for a range of problems

  6. Acquire the knowledge necessary to analyze the running time of algorithms and memory space required by the data structures of such algorithms

  7. Acquire knowledge of machine level instructions through a study of an assembly language

  8. Acquire knowledge of computer hardware organization and integrate this knowledge with machine-level instruction in order to understand the interface between hardware and software

  9. Acquire knowledge of fundamental functions of operating systems and computer architecture

  10. Acquire knowledge of language design and the language theory principles used to implement a language design in the form of a translator

  11. Acquire a depth of knowledge in some aspect of computer science

B. SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT

  1. Acquire knowledge of the positive and negative influences of technology on society

  2. Acquire knowledge of the theoretical basis for ethical decisions and how this basis is applied to the computing profession

  3. Acquire knowledge of issues regarding intellectual property

  4. Acquire knowledge of some legal issues involved in computing

C. INTERPERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

  1. Be able to interact with people and be an effective team member

  2. Communicate well orally and in writing, make presentations, and listen carefully.
