The following Economics courses are required for all students majoring in economics:

ECON 215: Principles of Microeconomics (3)
The economic behavior of individual decision-making units in society with development of the concepts of consumer choice and business firm behavior under different market condition.

ECON 216: Principles of Macroeconomics (3)
The role of households, business, government, and the international sector in relation to consumption, saving, investment income, and employment.
Prerequisite: ECON 215

ECON 315: Microeconomic Analysis (3)
Advanced analysis of microeconomic topics dealing with the consumer, the firm, market institutions and social welfare.
Prerequisites: ECON 215 and 216

ECON 316: Macroeconomic Analysis (3)
Advanced fundamentals of contemporary macroeconomics theory and policy.
Prerequisites: ECON 215 and 216

 

B.A. students majoring in Economics must take five of the following courses in Economics:
[B.S. students need take only four.]

ECON 306: Econometrics (3)
Preparation for doing empirical work in economics. Data analysis, regression analyses and us of real data to test economic hypotheses.
Prerequisite: ECON 215 and QMTH 206 or MATH 141 or MATH 541

ECON 331: Public Finance (3)
Microeconomic analysis of governmental activity, taxation and welfare implications.
Prerequisite: ECON 215

ECON 332: Economic Games and Strategies (3)
Introduction to game theoretic analysis and its application to economics.
Prerequisite: ECON 215

ECON 335: Money and Banking (3)
Interrelationship of the monetary and banking systems with the functioning of the economy. [This course is required of all B.S. economics students.]
Prerequisite: ECON 216

ECON 343: Environmental Economics (3)
Environmental economics is the application of the principles of economics to the study of how environmental resources are developed and managed.
Prerequisite: ECON 103 or ECON 215 or ECON 216

ECON 345: Labor Economics (3)
Analysis of labor market experience at both the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels.
Prerequisite: ECON 215

ECON 415: Managerial Economics (3)
Applications of economic principles and methods of analysis to managerial decision making.
Prerequisite: ECON 215

ECON 491: Internship in Economics (3)
The internship in economics provides opportunities for students to integrate course work into practical work settings. This course applies the academic and conceptual to the practical; students supervised by faculty will work a minimum of 150 hours during a semester of a summer term.
Prerequisites: 2.5 GPA and grade of C or better in at least two of these courses: ECON 315, ECON 316, ECON 331, ECON 335, ECON 343, ECON 345, ECON 415, ECON 521. Note:  A grade of S or U is recorded.

ECON 521: International Trade and Investment (3)
Theory and policy in international trade and investment with emphasis on the motives and mechanisms of international economic and financial transactions.
Prerequisite: ECON 216

Note: All ECON courses numbered above 299 have a prerequisite of junior status (54 credits), an overall GPA of at least 2.00 and a C or better in CRTW 201.
