General Information

Winthrop University offers the Master of Business Administration degree in three formats: a general MBA, an MBA with Accounting Emphasis, and an MBA with a concentration in Finance, International Business, or Software Project Management.

The Master of Business Administration degree program is accredited by AACSB-International, (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the premier accrediting agency for business school programs. Less than one-third of U.S. business school programs and less than 5% of programs worldwide hold this accreditation. AACSB-International accreditation assures quality and promotes excellence and continuous improvement.

Students from a diverse range of educational, professional, and cultural backgrounds participate in and enhance the educational experience. Nationally accredited, the program is taught by faculty committed to excellence in teaching and research.

MBA Program Overview

The general MBA is a two-phase program of 39 semester hours of required graduate courses. The curriculum includes the MBA core of 30 hours and 9 hours of elective courses. Up to 24 hours of prerequisites may be required, depending upon the individual student’s preparation.

Phase I courses involve the development of necessary business tools in the areas of accounting, organizational behavior, communications, statistics, and management information systems. An extensive study in the functional areas of business, including strategic and international issues in management, marketing and operations management, finance, and industrial economics and public policy, is developed in the courses of Phase II.

Admission Requirements

The applicant for admission to the MBA program must show high promise of success in post-graduate business study as measured by undergraduate grades, scores on the GMAT and other relevant criteria.  An applicant must also meet the general requirements for admission to graduate study at Winthrop University.

An applicant whose baccalaureate degree is from a foreign institution must present a score of at least 400 on the GMAT. An applicant whose native language is not English must present a score of at least 550 on the TOEFL.
